Valentine’s Day - A Love Letter to Ostomates

I have an ostomy, so I know what it’s like to feel isolated and confused after surgery, and searching the web for hours to find people “like me,” hoping to get answers to a thousand questions. I know what it’s like to be anxious because I need to see an ostomy nurse, but not to have timely access to one and then suffer because of it. I know what it’s like to feel that inner pull to talk to someone who knows what I’m going through, and I know countless ostomates and caregivers who have had similar experiences. Honestly, we all deserve better.

February 14, 2020, Valentine’s Day, is going to be special for all of us. It’s the day the Ostomy 101 mobile app is scheduled to hit the app stores. The app is a love letter, of sorts, from me to ostomates and caregivers everywhere. It says, “You are important, your needs matter, and we want to help.” So, we have created a first-of-its-kind, free mobile app to connect us all on our journey together. It was developed exclusively for you!

The nonprofit, vendor neutral, Ostomy 101 app will bring the universe of ostomy resources to your fingertips, and even enable you to consult a certified ostomy nurse and connect with a Patient Coach. This app gives you access to educational articles and videos, resources, samples, coupons, and a stoma assessment tool provided by the WOCN Society. The Ostomy 101 app is key to empowering patients and caregivers to live confidently after ostomy surgery.

This Valentine’s Day – act out! Download the Ostomy 101 app and be a voice that says, YES, ostomates deserve access to the tools and support they need to live successfully with an ostomy.

Special thanks to Star Harrison, RN, BSN, WOCN and Mary Ann Dilloway, RN, BSN, WOCN, and to our Founding Supporters, who invested in the Ostomy 101 app when it was only an idea and a heartfelt mission. This is compassion in action!
